Drake Loses $1 Million After Betting On World Cup
Drake is a betting man, but the odds weren’t in his favor during the World Cup. The rapper reportedly lost $1 million after betting that Argentina would win in the first 90 minutes.
Before the game, a video began circulating on social media showing Drake in a studio alongside a friend boasting about their bets. “I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France. That will be a vibe,” he said.
Ultimately, however, Drake lost seven figures when Argentina came out on the successful side of the neck-in-neck game. Though they did win over France, the game went into over-time, making Drake's prediction incorrect.
This is hardly the first time Drake has lost serious money after making a sports bet. Just last month, the Canadian native lost $2 million after betting that UFC fighter Israel Adesanya would win against Alex Pereira.
He similarly put down $230,000 when betting that Charles Leclerc would win the Spanish Grand Prix earlier in the year. However, the racer ended up suffering from engine failure.
But Drake doesn’t always come out on the losing side. In July, het bet $2.2 million that UFC’s Molly McCann would beat Hannah Goldy, and Paddy Pimblett would win over Jordan Leavitt. Drake’s predictions were right, which gave him a whopping $3.7 million.
The rapper was clearly pleased with his winnings, as he took to social media to share how he planned to reward the UFC fighters who were responsible for his impressive profit.
“@stake Rollies for Meatball and the baddy,” he wrote on social media, promising to buy Rolexes for McCann and Pimblett.
It’s unclear if Drake made good on his promised, but Pimbeltt appeared to expect a Rolex after the match when talking to the press.
“Molly over here sends him a video right after and asked for watches and he said he’s going to give us both a Rolex,” he said. “So, we’re swimming in it.”
Drake also made a $300,000 profit when he bet on the Super Bowl earlier this year. He put down $470,000 that the Rams would win, in addition to a $390,000 prediction that Odell Beckham Jr. would have 62.5 receiving yards.
During the same bet, Drake also predicted that Beckham would get a touchdown, putting down $399,000. His confidence in the quarterback can be explained by the fact that they’re close friends in real life – Beckham has even live with Drake in the past.
In total, Drake put $1.26 million in Bitcoin down in total, giving him $1.55 million back.
